Songs that Remind Me of Books Pt. 1

Hi everyone, I had planned to post part 2 of TBT: Middle School last Thursdays, and I had some books down with my thoughts on them, but it didn’t feel right, so I decided not to post it. Hopefully I can work and edit it between now and this coming Thursday! And, I didn’t do much this weekend blog wise because I had my first micro test today that had 4 chapters worth of material (about 150+ notecards) and Father’s Day was yesterday, so I didn’t have much free time. I’m hoping this week, I can post a few tags and a review! With that out of the way, let’s jump into today’s post!

As you probably know by now that books and music go hand in hand for me. With certain songs, they take me back to a particular book or even a specific scene in the book. Even after I finish a book and listen to some random song on the radio, I’ll think of how perfect that song would be for a character, story, or scene. So today for Music Monday, I’m going to share with y’all a few songs that take me back to books! Some songs have deeper ties with the books than others, AND there are going to be spoilers (read at your own risk)!!!

Marry You by Bruno Mars

This song reminds me so much of Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout when Daemon and Katy get married in Las Vegas in one of those chapels that seem to be on every block. They end up going kind of a spur of the moment while in hide out in a town close to LV, and they get married (under fake names because they’re on the run) without anyone knowing. Marry You seems to show the fun that Katy and Daemon have while they are able to escape reality for a few moments.

Sign of the Times by Harry Styles

This is when a song has NOTHING to do with the book but whenever I hear this song, I think of What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen simply because I heard it for what seems like on loop. The day that SotT dropped, every single radio satiation was playing it. I just so happened to be sitting in a car waiting on my parents who had a doctor appointment. Well I was trying to read, but I was so engrossed with the song and trying to catch it each time it played on a different station that my brain connected the two things together.

Terrible Things by Mayday Parade

Note that this song will make you cry because it is one of those sad love songs that tells the story of a couple who falls in love and the woman dies. Well this song takes me right back to First Love by James Patterson and Emily Rogerson because Axi and Robinson had cancer and are in remission when they the story opens up. Long story short, *SPOILER* Robinson finds out that he’s sick again but doesn’t tell Axi, insteads he takes her on a road trip where they fall in love, and his cancer worsens… Hearing this song breaks my heart because when I finished this book, I was boo-hoo sobbing because Robinson is one of those guys that radiates bad boy charm and everyone wants to hang out with.

Little Black Dress by One Direction

There’s this one scene in Did I Mention I Need You where Eden walks into the living room, where her ex-boyfriend is in the room, wearing a black party dress, and I’m like OMG this song is legit what is happening because tbh Tyler was pretty speechless and he ends up walking out of the room before he did anything crazy.

Crying on a Suitcase by Casey James

If you have read Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Anna is at the airport waiting for her plane after going to LA to tell the guys what’s happening, when Kaiden decides that he just wants one more night with her before he has to give her up completely and ends up racing to the airport and security to try to get her to come back with him. I can see this scene playing out every time I hear this song and ugh the feelings.

Last one for today!

Still Falling by Hunter Hayes

If you made it through the epilogue of Clockwork Princess with Will and Tessa and didn’t cry… I’m sorry. This is another story that had me ugly crying because I shipped this couple and to read about them growing old and Will dying… I couldn’t handle it! Anyway, Still Falling is literally Will and Tessa’s song during their adult life because Hunter sings about falling in love with each other each day and always finding new things to love about the other.

Does a particular song remind you of a book or a scene? Let me know below!

Happy reading until next time,

  2. I find that a song will make me think of a book if I’ve listened to it specifically whilst reading. I also tend to only listen to lyric-less music while reading because otherwise I start to read the book in a tone that doesn’t match what is on the page.

  3. Definitely definitely agree that Marry You is the perfect fit for Katy and Daemon in Origin! I bought a copy of Sweet Evil years ago but then never read it because i started seeing a lot of negative things, but now i kind of want tor read it just to get to the scene you referenced 😂

  4. I have never really given much thought to what song reminds me of a book. I don’t really listen to music with lyrics while I’m reading because I have this tendency to sing along and then I put down my book to just sing. I love this though. You should totally create a spotify list.
