WWW 7/3/19

Remember how I said that I was going to do WWWs every other week because there aren’t many changes to my readings? Well I’m starting to regret it because I honestly should have done one last Wednesday because today I have a LONG list of recently finished books that could have been spread out. Maybe I should shoot for a minimum of 2 WWWs per month and do additional ones when needed.

This tag is hosted by hosted by Taking on the World of Words where you answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you want to read next?

Currently Reading:

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

“All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.

Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.

As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.”

I’m about a hundred pages into this book and I AM LOVING IT!!! The first 50 pages were kind of slow, but it is really starting to move at a quicker pace!

Syrian Brides by Anna Halabi

“This delightful collection of short stories offers insight into the lives of Syrian women, both the married and the brides-to-be. It reveals the warmth and humor as well as the oppression in the Syrian society. The stories make the reader laugh while addressing serious issues such as domestic violence. Um Hussam can’t find a suitable bride for her son, testing each candidate’s sight, hearing and reading skills, occasionally cobbing a feel. Jamila’s husband Hassan can’t forget his deceased wife, until she makes sure he never mentions her again. Rami can’t help but wonder whether his new bride is a natural beauty or a talented surgeon’s masterpiece. Khadija’s maid stabs her in the back while Rana’s husband Muafak can’t find the right excuse to avoid a fight.”

I haven’t started this book quite yet, although I’ll start it before the end of the week because Anna was nice enough to send me an ecopy to review at my own pace, and I need to start/finish this book before I get stuck with upcoming book reviews and school.

Are you ready for the craziness below??? Are you sure? Because there are like 8 books on the just finished! All of the reviews are linked to the title.

Just Finished:

Darkblood Academy by G.K. DeRosa

Welcome to Darkblood—oops, I mean Darkhen Academy.

There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school:

  1. Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy.
  2. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon… or else.
  3. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors.

Too bad I’ve never really been a rule follower…

A year ago the supernaturals came out of the closet on primetime TV, and about a minute ago I, Luna Hallows, found out I was one of them—well, a half-blood anyway.

So here I am at Darkhen Academy, the only human and no magical abilities to speak of. The only reason I’m here is because of my father—a man I didn’t even know existed until now. He’s crazy powerful, and they think I could be too. But what could I possibly contribute to an exclusive squad of dragon shifters, fae, witches, and vampires?

I guess we’re about to find out because the merging of the supernatural and human realms isn’t going as smoothly as planned. If word gets out that humans are no longer safe from the supes, our worlds will once again be closed off.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening.”

One way or the other, she’ll have her vengeance.”

Cursed Beauty (Sleeping Beauty Retelling) by M. Lynn

“Aurora Rose Brynhild is out of time.

Now, the dark sorceress of Dracon is coming for her, and she doesn’t like to lose.

But Aurora is ready. She has nothing, no one to miss.

Until him

As she heals the prince, she comes to know fear for the first time in her life. Because now, when the slumber comes for her, she has something to leave behind.

Prince Phillip Basile never gives up.

And now, he will fight for her. Aurora tells him she can’t stay, that there’s no way to break her curse. But he will do anything to prove her wrong, to save her no matter the cost.

Inspired by the Sleeping Beauty story, this is the cursed princess as you’ve never seen her before.”

Wake’s Claim by Michelle Dare

“Wake had lived in fear for far too long. Life hadn’t been easy for him. Every day he resisted his natural instincts to claim the one female meant for him. An event from his past stopped him in his tracks every time his primal urges pushed him toward her. Paige accepted the role she played in Wake’s life. She was the one he wanted but never allowed himself to have. But when someone else showed interest in her, Wake had to decide once and for all. Putting his heart on the line left the shifter vulnerable, something he never wanted to be again. And just when he gave in to his instincts, fate dealt the pair a cruel hand.Nightmares came true, causing Paige to flee to the only place she felt safe—in the arms of Wake. Pack life wasn’t an easy life, but Paige wouldn’t give up the man who held her heart. Only together could the two move forward and find the happiness they both deserved.”

The Vixen’s Lead by Tate James

“I want vengeance so badly that I can almost taste it. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. So, I did what anyone in my unique position would do. I slapped on a secret identity and became an internationally renowned thief, known as The Fox. Nobody knows me. Nobody can catch me.

Or so I thought…

The Gems of Elsana by Cristian Sterling

“We know him well. Ever-flowing wisdom. Concealed power. A white beard and a proclivity for mentoring chosen ones. In so many stories, we find ourselves enamored with a kindly wizard guiding our protagonist, curious to his roots, source of power, and hidden knowledge. This is that wizard’s story.

Falin is only twenty years of age, and with nine-hundred eighty years left to explore the world, he is eager to begin his quest for the Gems of Elsana. As one of ten wizard’s acting as peacekeepers to their land, Falin must first embark on a journey to gather the Gems, four jewels that provide wizards with their full power. Once a century, a wizard sets out on their quest, accompanied by four Champions from each kingdom within the The Crown of Elsana. Falin considers himself lucky, joined by a sage healer, elven assassin, drakkish warrior, and madorian prince. All seems well until the elder wizards reveal they expect Falin’s quest will take them into the Wildbarrens, a desolate and horrid land teeming with creatures of the Dark. Given the circumstances—and to the chagrin of Falin’s honorable Champions—the group is accompanied by an unscrupulous pair of outlaws claimed to have traveled through the Wildbarrens. In their expedition, they come across friends and foes, countless landscapes, all while uncovering a sinister plot threatening the balance of Elsana.

In this feel-good fiction, we are cast into a world brimming with our favorite elements of fantasy with new twists unlike anything we’ve read before. Within The Gems of Elsana: Into the Wildbarrens, Christian Sterling has cultivated the start of a series with unparalleled charm, action, humor, romance, and thrills. All ages will be sure to enjoy this story from its first magical pages, to its last.”

Happy reading until next time,
