5 Star Predictions (Top Ten Tuesday) & Reading Updates

Hi everyone! We are almost to the weekend! Yesterday’s prompt for top ten Tuesday was 5 star predictions and honestly I didn’t have to to write a post (and wasn’t even sure if this was something I wanted to do but I slept on it and decided what the heck)! Also since today is Wednesday and I occasionally do WWW which is a weekly meme that is about when we’re reading I wanted to do this since it had been a while from the last time I had updated y’all on my readings.

TTT is a weekly meme hosted by thatartsyreadergirl

WWW is another weekly meme host by Taking on the World of Words where you answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you want to read next?

5 Star Predictions

I was hesitant to do this prompt because I try not to read really detailed reviews of books I’m hoping to read (because I don’t want to be unconsciously biased towards a character or what have you but that’s me). In all honesty, I wish that all the books in my room (read and unread) were 5 stars, but that’s just not realistic since every book is different.

Together We Caught Fire by Eva V. Gibson

Together We Caught Fire

First, this cover hold so much promise; plus the models in it reminds me of Jamie and Lily from the City of Bones movie. And, let’s not forget the ‘forbidden romance’ of wanting to date your now step brother! This plot is similar to the one of Did I Mention I Love You by Estelle Maskame (which I highly enjoyed). Then add another potential love interest into the equation… it sounds like I won’t be able to put it down! So in other words have high expectations for Eva’s debut novel!

The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Burning Shadow (Origin Series Book 2)

I love just about all of JLA books, and I loved the first book of this series, The Darkest Star which came out in 2018. So, I actually started this book a couple of weeks ago and got maybe 10 pages into it. I hadn’t really reached the hook of this story where I could put it down obviously (I think I have the whole fear of having to wait for the next book to be released), but I know where there’s a Luc (and Daemon) there’s 5 stars at the end of the tunnel.

Woven In Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez

Woven in Moonlight

The cover alone deserves 5 stars (and if you have seen the LitJoy or FairyLoot reversible dust jacket you’re missing out)! Shockingly I couldn’t tell you what exactly this book is about, so this is totally based on the cover. Excuse me while I go and read the synopsis… ok yes, I’m hooked. It sounds like this book has royals, romance, magic of sorts, and revenge!

Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris

Eyes on Me

This book looks like another fun contemporary story (which I’m in desperate need of at the moment). It has all the great components of a story with an ambitious girl falling for the guys she wants but can’t have because he has this huge goal to achieve.

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

Emergency Contact

This book has been on my TBR for what feels like forever. I’m not sure why I haven’t picked it up sooner, but I believe this book takes place in a college setting, so you’d think that I would have read it by now. There’s something so fun and exciting about having that one person to call and text wishing that they were in front of you instead of separated by a screen.

Reading Update

Currently Reading:

Below by Alexandra Warwick

Below (North Book 1)

“In the heart of the frigid North, there lives a demon known as the Face Stealer. Eyes, nose, mouth–nothing and no one is safe. Once he returns to his lair, or wherever it is he dwells, no one ever sees those faces again.

When tragedy strikes, Apaay embarks on a perilous journey to find her sister’s face–yet becomes trapped in a labyrinth ruled by a sinister girl named Yuki. The girl offers Apaay a deal: find her sister’s face hidden within the labyrinth, and she will be set free. But the labyrinth, and those who inhabit it, is not as it seems. Especially Numiak: darkly beautiful, powerful, whose motives are not yet clear.

With time slipping, Apaay is determined to escape the deadly labyrinth with her sister’s face in hand. But in Yuki’s harsh world, Apaay will need all her strength to survive.

Yuki only plays the games she wins.”

Royally Hitched by G.K. DeRosa

Royally Hitched: The Fae Prince: (The Dark Fae Series, Book 1)

A fight to the death…

Or at least that’s what it feels like when my twin sister and I are pitted against a dozen ruthless Fae females in a competition to marry the Spring Court prince. On live television.

If we can survive eight weeks on Royally Hitched, we’ll earn our freedom and a one-way ticket home to the human world.

All we have to do is play nice with the mean girls and stuck up ice prince. Oh, did I mention we shouldn’t even be here since we’re not actually Fae? Well, no one knows that—yet.

As girls are eliminated and the competition heats up, things take a lethal turn. Someone wants the prince dead, and we all become targets. When he’s almost killed, unexpected feelings come over me. Panic. Pain. Sadness. The idea of losing him actually hurts.

And what’s worse… my sister feels the same way. “

Something Unusual by Kit Winters

Cilla D’Ponte attracts trouble. Mathias Smith defines it. Considered the black sheep of her family, Cilla left her coven behind in favor of an entirely different world: college. However, there’s more in the mortal realm than she suspected, and when a stranger uses dark magic to steal her friends, she’ll face anything to get them back. Being a blood-sucking parasite himself, Mathias knows those “friends” aren’t good for her; what he doesn’t know is why he cares. From the second he witnessed her exploding cinnamon buns, Cilla’s mystery had wrapped itself around his mind. No matter how he tries, he can’t seem to untangle her from his thoughts. Whether their meeting is destiny or fate has yet to be determined. All we know is the start of something big often comes in little packages…”

Recently Finished:

You can see what I just finished in my January wrap-up! I’m not going to rehash everything since I posted it a couple of days ago!

Up Next:

Honestly, I’m not sure. I want to reread some books like the rest of the Ghost Bird Series, Obsidian by JLA, Paper Princess by Erin Watt, and a couple of other books since I had read them way before my blogging days. But at the same time I have so many books on my TBR that I need to read. Oh the decisions.

What are some of you 5 star predictions? Let me know below.

Happy reading until next time,

  1. Below sounds like a really good read – although I feel like I need something a bit “warmer” (since it’s freezing cold here in Canada right now!) LOL

  3. I keep seeing Emergency Contact at Books a Million and picking it up, but I’ve not followed through with buying it. I think I may see if my library has it because it looks like a great book. Your list is great! Enjoy reading!
