Crave by Tracy Wolff

Available: April 7, 2020

Crave by [Wolff, Tracy]

“My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.”

Series Reading Order:

5 Stars

Honestly, I’d give this book 10 stars if I could (which I guess that I could since this is my blog, but I guess I’ll stick with 5)!

If you like:

  • Paranormal: Vampires (duh), dragon shifters, wolf shifters, witches, etc.
  • Slow Burn Romance
  • Sexy, brooding guys
  • Academy Settings

Then this is the book for you!

Before I get into the story told within the pages, I want to talk about the book itself. So this book has named chapters!!! I for one love a book where there’s a little something more than ‘Chapter 1’. All of the chapters were named for something to do with the contents of that chapter and was fun (and kind of scary) to get a glimpse of what was about to happen.

I’ll be honest, I’m a werewolf person. Sure, I was Team Edward back in the day, and I love Damon from The Vampire Diaries (both the show and the book), but my heart is with the wolves (don’t know why but it is). That was until I read Crave; Jaxon is enough to make me want to switch sides and hang with the vampires.

Grace finds herself in the frigid tundra of Alaska shortly after parents die in a car wreck going to live with her cousin and uncle at the private boarding school where he’s also the headmaster. Sounds fun right? There’s nothing like packing up your life into three suitcases and moving from sunny San Diego to the lands where it’s constantly cold and snowing.

From the first couple of chapters, I knew that Grace would be someone that I’d hang out with because she’s resilient and sarcastic and fierce. She’s has a hard couple of months since her parents have died, yet she’s still holding to the little that’s left.

Then, there’s Jaxon. Y’all, this review could easily be me talking about him and how much I love him. No joke, Jaxon has made the list of top 5 book boyfriends; I’m sorry to whoever just got knocked off the list, but once you meet Jaxon, you’ll understand why it happened.

Jason is a wildcard to be honest. He’s that guy who’s dressed in all black and all but runs the school. He has the reputation of being the closed off bad boy and yes, he has the attitude and demeanor to back it up. But, as he interacts and spends more time with Grace, his walls start to slip and show that there’s more to him than the icy façade that is put in place. He’s well quipped in literature, pop culture, just being everything that makes up Jaxon.

Even from Grace and Jaxon’s first run in, it was obvious that there was SOMETHING there between them. There was a magnetic pull that neither of them could resist or knew how to handle. Jaxon knew that Grace was special to him, and him being himself (as in the position that he holds), he’s a complete jerk to her to keep her away because being near him only brings trouble. Grace on the other hand isn’t buying his BS and despite being tired, moving to the freezing cold, and having to adjust to the high altitude, stands her ground and gives it back to him.

What did I expect from this book? I’m not quite sure if I’m being honest. I knew that there was going to be a sexy vampire (and he didn’t disappoint either).

For a while Jaxon and Grace wasn’t sure how to approach each other. Jaxon was being cold to her because she meant something to him even if he didn’t know the full extent, and Grace wanted to know the person that strikes fear in so many at their school.

“Nothing to do but admit that – obnoxious smirk or not – this boy is sexy af.

A little wicked, a lot wild, and all dangerous…

When exactly did I become the heroine in some YA romance?”

This book is a lot deeper that the typical vampire love story. It covers a multitude of things from grief to moving on from the past and having to discovering who you are when you just lost a large piece of your life. By the time I reached page 50, I was hooked by Jaxon! I had spent the better part of the last couple of nights staying up reading because I couldn’t put it down. Then around the 200 page mark, I was absolutely in love with Jaxon and couldn’t live without him.

Crave also has a good friendship between Grace and her cousin Macy! I was glad that the two had become so close during the course of the book because I couldn’t imagine being in Grace’s shoes and not have someone to talk to or have as a source of comfort during difficult times. Plus Macy loves Harry Styles!

Speaking of modern pop artists, I love how Tracy talks about new and old pop culture in this book! Like, Grace loves the To All the Boys movie, both Grace and Macy love Harry’s solo music, and then there were a bunch of cool stickers in the library! This list could honestly go on forever, but it was so cool to see character who are interested in the stuff that is popular now!

Last night I had about 30 pages and thought I would finish it in the morning and ended up reading the rest of it last night. By the time I read the last page, I was ugly crying because it was over and what happened in the last chapter. Now I have to wait for book two to be released.
