Hi everyone! This post was originally supposed to go up on Monday for the 7th day of Blogmas but time got away from me đ .
I was tagged the other day by the lovely Daria @ Bookaholic’s Therapy to do the NOPE! Book Tag. The tag was created by The Farah Project over on Youtube, if you want to see the original version.
NOPE! Ending: a book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy
I talked about this recently, but the ending of Allegiant by Veronica Roth just makes me so mad that Tris sacrificed herself in place of her brother when he betrayed her. Tris had a future with Four, but decided to go in for the job that was a suicide mission because of family.
Another ending that I canât get over is the one from We Were Liars by E. Lockheart because itâs just so up in the air as to what happened and is essentially left open for you to interpret.
NOPE! Protagonist: a main character you dislike and drives you crazy
Mara Dyer from the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. In Maraâs series, I really didnât mind her, but one we got to Noahâs spin-off series, good heavens, it took all of my will power to finish that book. I donât know if itâs because weâre seeing Mara from a different POV of if the events of the previous series changed her, but I WAS DYING whenever I say Mara.
NOPE! Pairing: a âshipâ you donât support
Ready for this?
Aelin and Rowan. You know, deep down in my heart, I was hoping that Aelin would end up with Dorian; I was holding out until the very end, but it just didnât happen. The only thing that makes it a smidgen (and I mean a smidgen) better is that they were still friends.
NOPE! Genre: a genre you will never read
*clears throat*
- Horror
- Thriller/suspense
- Mystery
- Poetry
- Nonfiction
- Erotica
- Books written in Ye Old English
Fine, maybe itâs a little harsh to say that I will never read mystery and suspense, but itâs not high on the list of books genres Iâd read first.
NOPE! Book format: book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition
*hides behind a wall*
I donât hate these formats, but it would be audiobooks and ebooks.
Audiobooks because I like to try and multitask when possible and when I listen to an audiobook, I really have to pay attention. Plus, I donât have an audible subscription and can only get 4 titles through my school which I normally forget about my download audiobooks.
When I think of reading, my first thought is of a physical book where I can turn the page, and ebooks just donât give me that same sense of accomplishment whenever I finish a book. Sure the amazing deals and being able to have as many titles as your device has room for is amazing, but the actual reading experience is lacking for me when it comes to ebooks.
NOPE! Trope: a trope that makes you go NOPE
Dating someone whoâs old enough to be your parent or someone thatâs your parentsâ best friend.
NOPE! Recommendation: a book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read
For me, it would have to be The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. I had read the first 75 or so pages for a book club shortly after the book had come out, and it just wasnât something that I was able to finish.
NOPE! Cliche: a cliché or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes
You know what Iâm tired of seeing. The good girl who has a nonexistent social life suddenly date a bad boy and goes wild.
NOPE! Love interest: the love interest thatâs not worthy of being one
Patch from the Hush, Hush series. Every after all these years, Iâm still not convinced about this dude. I get that heâs a fallen angle and doesnât have any emotions, but really? It was a struggle to finish those four books.
Then there was Daniel from the Fallen series by Lauren Kate, and he was another winning character that made me want to quit the series.
NOPE! Book: a book that shouldnât have existed
I really donât know if Iâve ever disliked a book so much to say that it shouldnât have existed! Sure there has been many books that took me longer than normal to finish, but I donât think thereâs been one I despised that much.
NOPE! Villain: a villain you would hate to cross
All of them?
NOPE! Death: a character death that still haunts you
*whispers sadly*
Will Herondale.
NOPE! Author: an author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit
John Green a 100%. I read two books trying to give him a chance and between The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns, I JUST DONâT UNDERSTAND THE HYPE.
