Things That Make Me Instantly Want to Read a Book

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to do a top ten Tuesday (even though its been like maybe a year and a half since the last time I’ve done a TTT).

This week’s prompt is things that make me instantly want to read a book.

TTT is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Book Covers

People always say “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, but with some covers there is so many little details that can be found about the story itself.

I am all for an illustrated cover (huge bonus points if the books with the illustrated cartoon covers that are extra spicy under the cover).

Genre and Spice

When I read it a book, it has to be first and foremost a romance book. Like, the book can be straight up romance or fantasy or sci-fi, but it must have a strong romance plot line and not like a fantasy book with romance as one of the lesser subplots.

Also, the spice level needs to be through hot or above. If the spice does not deliver, I’m either going to put the book in the pile next to my bed that “I’ll pick up later” or unfortunately rate a little less.

Author

If you are any of the following:

I will hands down, no thought about it, instantly buy your book without even looking at the synopsis.

Obviously, there’s a lot of other author who are on my auto-buy list but I may wait some time after the book is released, but those ladies above… I won’t even think twice about buying the book even if it takes me months to get to reading it.

Tropes

I guess at this point you could say that I’m into more of the taboo stuff to those who read primarily middle grade or young adult like I was when I first started blogging, but I’ve fallen in love with the world of romance and some of the craziness that comes with it.

Give me a book with any of the following:

  • reverse harem
  • age gap
  • student/teacher
  • work place romance
  • billionaire romance
  • sports/hockey
  • grumpy sunshine
  • touch her and i’ll kill you/morally gray love interest
  • omegaverse and/or werewolf or shifter

and you will not see me until I finish the book. I will not know peace again until I have finished the book

Tiktok

I hate to say it, but the people on booktok knows how to hook me with just a few lines from a book, and the lines can be completely out of context, and I still screenshot the book title/author to buy shortly after.

I have learned my lesson a couple of times because it could be a snippet from the one “spicy” scene in a chuncky 700 page book, and I’m left slightly disappointed when I finish the book; sort of like when people thought the shatter me series was like super spicy because everyone was obsessed with Warner saying “lyhfml”.

So take some recommendations with a grain of salt.

Happy reading until next time,

  1. Just have to say that I love that you’re saying the spice level needs to be through the roof. I get tired of people complaining about spice levels. It was nice to see a different take!

  2. Funny enough, most of these are things that would make me NOT want to pick up a book. Ha ha. I’m a *bit* of a prude and I’m not much for romance books anyway. However, I do like the grumpy/sunshine trope, whether it’s in a romance or just a general relationship.

    Happy TTT!

  3. I definitely judge books by their covers, the prettier the cover the more likely I am to pick it up. I have to say I’m the complete opposite to you when it comes to romance and spice though, I prefer romance not to be the major plot in anything I’m reading and lots of spice makes me feel very awkward. I’m glad you enjoy that though!
