The Best Mistake (Southern U O'Brien Brothers) by [Cookie O'Gorman]

Synopsis:

Honor Tierney just wants one night with the playboy.

One hot, steamy, meaningless hookup, and then she’ll happily go back to reading her favorite books, studying to be an accountant and writing for the campus-paper-nobody-reads. Too bad she ends up in the wrong bed, with the wrong brother…who gives her the hottest night of her life.

Archer O’Brien just wants to play ball.

Well that, and for his brothers to stop acting out, so he won’t have to worry 24/7. As the oldest O’Brien and team captain, it’s his duty to make sure they don’t drink too much, party too much, or get in too much trouble. But when she walks into his bedroom—mistaking him for his brother—life throws him a curveball.

She’s determined to guard her heart. He’s not giving up.

And when Honor gets assigned to cover the Wolves baseball team, it’s game on.

This new adult sports romance features one hot (and hilarious) case of mistaken identity and a sexy set of brothers guaranteed to make you swoon.

Sometimes, the best mistakes are worth making.

Then this is the books for you!

As many of y’all know by now, I don’t read a lot of NA books because let’s be honest sometimes it’s more on the erotic side than actually telling a story. But when I got the email about this book blitz, I took one look at Archer on the cover and wanted to read it. Call me superficial I don’t care.

This is the type of NA book that I want to read. It takes the romance scenes and turns up the heat but not to the point to where I want to scrub my eyeballs after reading a bedroom scene.

After reading this book, I’m really upset that my local tech college doesn’t have a baseball team that I can interview the star players because if my life ended up anything like Honor and Archer’s I’d be running to sign up as the reporter.

Honor prefers the romance to be in her books than in her own life. When she was little, she saw her dad walk away from her and her mom and never look back. That led to years of Honor’s mom neglecting her daughter for men who would always end up leaving. After years of watching relationships die, she turned to books to live vicariously through those stories with HEAs.

At the start of her senior year in college, Honor decides to push aside her quite and shy side for one night to go to a party so she can lose her V card and stop feeling so embarrassed about her lack of romance. After working up the nerve to go, she finds herself in the position to catch the eyes of someone who’s always looking for fun thanks to her good friend Charli. She decides it’s now or never and goes to his room. One thing leads to another and she’s had the best make-out session in her life, but before she can get much farther, they are interrupted, and she leaves.

The next day when she goes onto the field to interview one of the baseball players for the school’s paper, she realizes her mistake quickly. It wasn’t the O’Brian she was anticipating hooking up with; instead she discovers it was the oldest brother. The one that’s always wearing a frown and is the equivalent of the dad on the team looking out for the players.

“All good girls need to experience a bad boy once in their lives.”

The interview session is going good… until it’s time to say goodbye. Archer let’s Honor know about her slip-up in the bedroom. Despite meeting in an odd way, Archer wants to know more about her because she has added something to him that has been missing for years. Suddenly after years of barely dating, there’s this girl who walks into his room and taken up resident in his mind.

Let me just tell you, if I found Archer in real life, I wouldn’t let him slip by. He’s super caring for his family and teammates (even the ones who are something else). He has helped his mom raise his siblings after his dad died at a young age making sure that they stay out of trouble. He has given up his childhood to take on such a large role and still makes sure that everyone is staying out of any major trouble.

He’s the golden boy that is the captain of the team who keeps everyone in line. He stays out of the spotlight most of the time, so it surprises most of his brothers when he’s suddenly caught feelings for this quite girl.

“Are you seriously threatening to hold my book hostage until I go out with you?”

This is a fast sweet story about two people from different social circles trying to over come many feelings that they’ve been holding on for many years to try and catch something worth holding on to. I read this book in less than a day because I was so caught up in both Honor and Archer’s story. I loved their every evolving relationship and watching them work through their feelings and having to work through personal stuff before they can find any semblance of happiness.
